In this book, Doug Herald invites the reader to walk through his life with him.  He honestly presents the struggles in his life that led to a pivotal moment in his adulthood when he realized emptiness amidst success.  In a journey of understanding himself and God, Doug’s vulnerability allows the message of hope to resound.  Breaking through cultural and social norms, this book identifies and addresses many issues that people have struggled with and have been for too long silenced by fear of others.  From a little boy raised in small town Kentucky, to Vice President of a large food manufacturer, Doug’s journey has been captured with sincerity and genuineness.  The good, the bad, the ugly, and the redeemed are all laid out on the table in hopes that others may realize that they are not alone in the silent inner battle.
Doug has over 26 years of leadership experience in the food manufacturing industry and has 20 plus years in the ministry as Pastor of a church. Throughout his career Doug has worked hard to make a difference in the lives of the people that he has worked for with a servant leadership style that drives deep employee engagement and continuous improvements in the work place. Doug has over 20 plus years in the ministry, has started two churches, and is currently serving as Pastor of a church in Highlands Heights, Kentucky.
Doug was born on a small, family owned farm in Grant’s Lick, Kentucky, where, with his brother and sister, he was raised by his grandparents, Charles and Edith Peters, while his wonderful mom, Alvena, went to work to financially support the family. Doug has been married to Tammie (Sebastian) Herald for 26 plus years and they have three daughters, Kimberley, Katlyn, and Kathleen.

Companies are eager to implement Lean into their operations quickly. However, before Lean can be implemented, the proper foundation must be laid through the implementation of standard work and visual controls. The procedure outlined in this book shows how basic lean principles can be used to implement standard work and visual controls through Plan Do Check Act (PDCA). After you have followed the PDCA for Process Implementation outlined in this book, you will have the proper foundation for your company to operate with Lean.

The art of creating positive change in people, businesses, and organizations is done best through servant leadership. Change can be driven by either desperation or inspiration, but it most often comes due to desperation.  The purpose of this book is to teach you leadership principles that actually can spur positive change within individuals, families, organizations and even countries so that you are equipped to really make a difference in your own life and the lives of those around you. The type of leadership we are talking about is not in a position, but rather in an action from a person. There are all types of leaders: good, bad, those that lead to destruction, those that lead people forward to something better, and those that don’t really seem to do anything at all. The key is to understand the “what,” “how,” and “who” of leadership.

Our desire as you read this book is to teach you leadership in a way that helps you affect people and bring purpose in their lives through what they do.  This is not a book just about leading people in a work place, but about leading in life as a whole, whether that is as a parent, a spouse, a friend, or in any role you may fill.  Our desire is for you to be the type of person that others can count on and look to in times of difficulty because they can trust you, and for you to be the one they will lean on because you are a source of encouragement and inspiration.
